Have you ever felt a chill down your spine standing alone in a deserted gas station at 3 AM? Imagine that feeling amplified when you know that the customers walking in are Doppelgangers! Welcome to Shift At Midnight! This is a trending indie horror game that perfectly combines simulated store management mechanics with heart-pounding survival horror.
Your goal is to run a store, not merely live. Failure to meet sales targets will result in termination. Phases of shifts include Management/Detective and Survival.
This is when you're manning the reception desk and gas pump. Customers will arrive.
Serving & Interrogating: You need to sell, restock shelves, keep the store clean, and serve customers filling up their tanks.
Checking Papers: This is the most important part. Check their ID cards. Do they look like the photos? Does the birth date match?
Cross-check Computer: Enter the ID data into the store's computer. Check if their name, occupation, and "Alive" status match the database.
Behavior Observation: Do they speak strangely? Are they too aggressive or too quiet? Ask them about their occupation to see if they're lying.
Let Them Go: If you believe they are human.
Execute on the Spot: If you are certain they are monsters, use your weapons to take them down immediately.
If you let a Doppelganger leave the store, or if you slaughter an innocent person, all hell will break out. The customer you just served will return later in your shift, but this time in the form of a gigantic, hideous monster to hunt you down.
Board Up: You need to quickly board up the doors and windows to prevent monsters from swarming into the store.
Trap Placement: You need to use the money you earn to buy traps via the computer. Strategically place them in walkways and doorways to slow down or kill monsters.
Bear Trap: Cheap, effective early game, immobilizes one enemy.
Stun Mine: Stuns in an AoE, great for being chased.
Flame Trap: Expensive, deals massive damage in the late game.
Hide: If a trap fails, find a hiding place. Vents, lockers, or under a table.
